Yamaha FZS Fi V4: Common Problems, Fixes & Ownership Guide (2026)

3 May 2026 · 5 min read

The FZS Fi V4 is Yamaha's most refined version of the long-running FZ-S line, but a few known limitations — particularly on the highway — affect its appeal as an all-round machine for Bangladeshi riders.

Overview

The Yamaha FZS Fi V4 represents the fourth generation of the FZ-S in Bangladesh, bringing a refreshed design, updated fuel injection, improved LED lighting, and a more premium instrument cluster compared to the V3. It shares the proven 149cc air-cooled SOHC single-cylinder platform and is priced at Tk 2,93,000.

As a fourth-generation product, the FZS Fi V4 benefits from cumulative refinement. The FZ platform is well understood by Yamaha's service network in Bangladesh, and ACI Motors stocks parts consistently. This is a bike with one of the lowest after-sales risk profiles you can buy in the 150cc segment here.

The main ownership concern is not reliability — it is the bike's inherent character. The 149cc air-cooled engine was designed for comfortable commuting, not high-speed performance, and riders who push it on highways or load it with a pillion on hilly routes will notice its limits quickly.

Common problems & fixes

  • Weak overtaking performance with pillion: Multiple owner reviews note that overtaking on highways becomes laborious with a pillion passenger. The engine, producing around 12.4 PS, simply runs out of drive above 90 km/h when loaded. This is a known characteristic, not a defect. Fix: ride one gear lower than usual when overtaking two-up.
  • Headlamp adequacy on rural roads: While the V4 has an improved LED headlight compared to the V3's halogen, some owners report the beam pattern is still narrow for night use on unlit highways. Fix: adjust the headlight angle slightly upward if your routes involve dark rural roads.
  • Fuel tank surface rust: In Bangladesh's humidity, small rust spots can form inside the fuel tank if the bike sits unused for more than 3–4 weeks with a partially full tank. Fix: keep the tank full when storing, and add a fuel stabiliser if storing for more than 2 weeks.
  • Chain wear in monsoon season: Exactly as with the V3, the OEM chain wears faster than the factory schedule suggests in Bangladesh's monsoon conditions. Fix: lubricate every 400–500 km and rinse the chain after riding in rain.
  • Throttle jerk at low speeds: Some owners report a slight jerkiness when opening the throttle from a closed position at low speeds in traffic. This is related to FI fuelling characteristics at low load. Fix: a throttle body cleaning service at 10,000–12,000 km resolves most cases.

Maintenance & service tips (Bangladesh)

  • Oil change every 3,000 km with 10W-40 MA-grade oil is the correct interval for Bangladesh's heat and traffic conditions, even if the manual quotes 6,000 km.
  • Always fill up at reputable petrol stations. Adulterated fuel creates injector deposits — a Tk 3,000–5,000 cleaning job that is entirely avoidable.
  • Check valve clearance at 24,000 km as scheduled; the air-cooled single is prone to valve noise if this is skipped.
  • Rinse the underside of the bike after monsoon rides, paying attention to the chain, brake caliper, and electrical connectors near the swingarm.
  • Brake fluid (DOT 4) should be replaced every 2 years; the V4's braking system is straightforward to bleed and any authorised Yamaha centre can do it.
  • Battery health: keep a check if the bike sits for more than a week. Bangladesh's heat accelerates battery self-discharge.

Is it worth buying in Bangladesh?

The FZS Fi V4 is the right choice for a Bangladeshi rider who values refinement, reliability, and the Yamaha service network over outright performance. The jump in price versus the V3 buys you better ergonomics, improved lighting, and a more premium instrument console.

It is not the bike for someone who wants to sit at 100 kmph on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway regularly. The 149cc single is happiest between 60–85 kmph. Within that envelope, it is smooth, fuel-efficient (46–52 kmpl in mixed riding), and dependable.

Resale values hold well in the Bangladeshi used market. Parts availability from ACI Motors is excellent. If you buy from an authorised dealer and keep the service book stamped, the FZS Fi V4 will easily cover 1,00,000+ km with only routine maintenance.
